Dental Crowns

A dental crown is a tooth-shaped covering that is placed over the tooth to restore its structure or enhance its appearance. Crowns are used to:

  • Repair a cracked, chipped, or otherwise damaged tooth
  • Support a bridge
  • Restore the tooth’s structure, size, and shape
  • Top a dental implant post
  • Reinforce a tooth that has been seriously worn down by decay, grinding, or other causes

Placing Dental Crowns

Because New Era Dental, located in Arvada, near Denver, uses CEREC® technology, it’s easy to have dental crowns fitted and placed at our office in a single appointment! We will first remove a portion of your existing tooth's structure to make room for the crown. With the advanced CEREC® 3D software technology, we will take a digital impression of the tooth and design the crown based on that information. With the click of a button, your crown’s design is sent to another machine in the office, where the restoration is milled in about 10 to 20 minutes. We will then cement the crown into place using strong bonding materials and polish the crown.

CEREC® technology is an exciting development because it eliminates the need for temporary restorations and multiple office visits. If you live in the Denver or Arvada areas and would like more information about dental crowns or our CEREC® machine, please contact New Era Dental today.

Dental Bridges

Dental bridges are used to fill in gaps between teeth. Bridges offer cosmetic, restorative, and functional benefits; by completing a full set of teeth, they enhance the appearance of the smile, help to maintain a strong facial structure, and make chewing easier for the wearer.

Types of Dental Bridges

Many Arvada and Denver patients prefer the traditional type of dental bridges. When placing a traditional bridge, we will use an artificial tooth attached to two crowns. The artificial tooth, also called a pontic, fills in the gap, and the crowns cover the surrounding teeth to hold the bridge in place.

If there are no existing teeth on one side of the gap, we will place a cantilever bridge - two crowns placed side-by-side, attached to the pontic and affixed to the patient’s existing teeth. We may also use a third type of bridge, called a Maryland Bonded bridge, which is composed of plastic gums and teeth, and supported by a metal frame.

Placing Dental Bridges

After we determine which type of bridge best suits you and your needs, we will prepare your teeth for the bridge work. This requires us to remove some of the remaining teeth’s structure to make room for the bridge. Then, we will take impressions of your teeth, which are used to create the crowns for the bridge. Once the crowns are crafted, we will bond the bridge to your teeth.

Cosmetic Gum Contouring

Healthy, properly shaped gums are an important component in an attractive smile. When gum tissue is excessive or uneven, it can make teeth look shorter and affect the overall aesthetics of your smile. For patients with "gummy" smiles, our practice offers cosmetic gum contouring. Using a laser, we will shape and sculpt your gum tissue, removing excess tissue. The process is quick and painless, and the end results are not only aesthetically pleasing, but also beneficial to your overall oral health.

Replacing Metal Fillings

Metal fillings have become outdated since the development of white composite "tooth-colored" fillings. The latter option is much more pleasing to the eye than traditional metal fillings. The white composite fillings are also stronger and more effective in protecting the natural tooth and preventing leakage. They do not react to heat like metal fillings do; heat can cause the filling to expand and damage the tooth. Our office can replace existing metal fillings with a tooth-colored filling, for better protection and a bright new look. Or, for a completely new look, you might want have a set of porcelain veneers applied to your front teeth.

Inlays and Onlays

Sometimes, patients from Denver and Arvada need options besides dental crowns, bridges, or veneers to repair damage or decay in the back areas of the mouth. Inlays and onlays are restorations that repair teeth that are cracked or fractured but do not require a crown. Inlays and onlays can also replace metal fillings. Inlays fit in the contours on the top surface of the tooth; onlays extend to one or more of the cusps (chewing surface) of the tooth and provide more protection for the tooth. New Era Dental creates inlays or onlays using our CEREC® machine, which is able to mill the restorations right in our own office while you wait!

Porcelain Veneers

Porcelain veneers dramatically improve the aesthetics of your smile, masking chips, cracks, and stains. Using CEREC® technology, we are able to mill and place veneers in one visit. Another option is LUMINEERS® - a lighter, thinner type of veneers. Learn more about this cosmetic dentistry solution on our veneers page.
