Porcelain Veneers - Who is an ideal candidate?

We all want to have beautiful teeth, but time, genetics, and environmental factors can wreak havoc on our teeth, transforming them from shiny white to dingy and dull. Fortunately, porcelain veneers are here to help. Veneers exist to make teeth look better, and are able to do so for a variety of teeth problems. Veneers can help your teeth look better no matter if they’re chipped, discolored, crooked, or spaced too far apart.

Not everyone, however, is an ideal candidate for veneers. Before you count on getting the procedure done, it is a good idea to speak with your cosmetic dentist to ensure that you are a good candidate. Good candidates for porcelain veneers are generally people who are in good health, as the healthier that you are, the faster you’ll be able to recover from the minor procedure. While having porcelain veneers put on is generally a painless procedure, there can be some irritation of the gums, and the healthier that you are, the better able you will be to be able to heal from the procedure.

While veneers can help a variety of problems, there are some situations in which they cannot help. If your tooth is damaged down to the root, for instance, or is causing you a great deal of pain, veneers will likely not be recommended. In cases such as this, your cosmetic dentist will be able to tell you if your teeth need to be removed or if they can be fixed with veneers.

A good candidate for porcelain veneers will have realistic expectations about what they can expect from the procedure. While porcelain veneers can dramatically improve the appearance of your teeth, there are some situations in which they cannot make them look completely perfect. Expecting perfection is something that no candidate for veneers should do.

If you suffer from stained, broken, or chipped teeth and would like to beautify your smile, then talk to a Denver-area dentist about veneers. He or she will be able to tell you if they are an option for you; have a chat with your local cosmetic dentist to find out if you are an ideal candidate or not.
